Limited to just 8 guests, every session balances camaraderie with genuinely individual coaching.
“We had a great day spearfishing with Bamm at Top Shot in Kona. 3 of use showed up with zero experience, had about a hour chat about safety and strategy, and within minutes of getting in the water, Bamm had us hunting. His instruction was clear and practical…”
If you’re visiting from outside Hawaiʻi and you’re 15 or older: yes. The state requires a Nonresident Recreational Marine Fishing License for all ocean fishing, spearfishing included (HAR 13-74-11). It takes a few minutes online — 1-day $20 · 7-day $40 · annual $70 — and the digital license on your phone is your proof. Buy it before your dive at fishing.hawaii.gov. Hawaiʻi residents, kids under 15, and active-duty military with their minor children are exempt.
You should be comfortable snorkeling. We spend a couple of hours snorkeling in the open ocean, so that baseline matters. Beyond that, none. We provide complete land and water training that gets total beginners successfully spearfishing in a single session.
A swimsuit, towel, sunscreen, and water. We handle all diving and hunting equipment.
Kona sits in the wind shadow of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, so conditions are calm and clear nearly year-round. If conditions ever force a change, we contact you directly and you choose: a free reschedule or a full refund.
Absolutely. Your catch is yours to take home. House standard: two fish per person of any given species, no limit on invasives. The law doesn’t require it, we do. We clean it, bag it, and send you off with a good recipe. Target species like to‘au and ta‘ape are excellent eating. The invasive roi we remove goes to Kona Coast Nutrients and becomes organic fertilizer. Nothing wasted.

One session per day, mornings only, eight spots each. They go fast — book early.
