What is Snorkel Pro? Snorkel Pro is a 3-hour guided ocean skills session in Kona, Hawai‘i that teaches snorkelers professional freediving techniques — breath-hold, dive form, and ear equalization — so they can comfortably explore below the surface instead of watching the reef from above. It costs $199 per person with all gear included, runs mornings on the Big Island’s calm Kona coastline, and compresses skills that typically take months of trial and error into a single session. No spearfishing involved.
THE DIFFERENCE

Ordinary tours stop at the surface. You’ll glide through the reef at 25 feet.

THE CURRICULUM

Three skills. One morning. Yours for life.

01 · Breath

Breathing technique

Safe breath-hold fundamentals — how to prepare, how to relax, and how to immediately extend your comfortable time underwater.

02 · Form

Dive form

Efficient duck-dives and streamlined finning, so every descent costs less oxygen and feels effortless instead of frantic.

03 · Depth

Equalization

The skill nobody teaches snorkelers: clearing your ears properly, so depth stops hurting and starts opening up.

How the morning runs

Land session: breathing, safety, and technique fundamentals at our private Kona Coastline Training Facility — the same facility our spearfishing guests train at.

Surface skills: guided practice in calm, clear water — duck dives, finning, and your first comfortable equalized descents, with a coach beside you the whole time.

Guided exploration: put it together on the reef. Turtles, coral heads, lava structure — experienced from inside the water column, not above it.

QUESTIONS

Good to know

Do I need a fishing license?

No — Snorkel Pro is a skills session with no hunting or take, so no fishing license is required. If you move up to a spearfishing dive (Group or Private), non-resident guests 15+ need the state’s marine fishing license — details on our regulations page.

How is Snorkel Pro different from a snorkel tour?

A snorkel tour shows you the reef from the surface. Snorkel Pro teaches you the freedive-level skills — breathing, form, equalization — to actually descend into it. It’s technique instruction, not sightseeing.

Do I need to be a strong swimmer?

You should be a confident swimmer and comfortable snorkeling in the open ocean, but you don’t need to be an athlete. The techniques we teach make being in the ocean easier, not harder.

Is this freediving? Is it safe?

Snorkel Pro teaches entry-level freediving skills in shallow water under direct professional supervision, using the same safety-first curriculum that made our spearfishing intro the industry standard.

What if the weather is bad?

Kona sits in the wind shadow of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, so conditions are calm and clear nearly year-round. If we ever have to cancel for conditions, we contact you directly and you choose: a free reschedule or a full refund.

Is all gear included?

Yes — low-volume mask, snorkel, fins, and wetsuit are all provided and fitted to you. Bring a swimsuit, towel, and sunscreen.

Who is Snorkel Pro for?

Snorkelers who want more than floating; travelers prepping for future dive trips; couples and families who want a skill, not just an activity. Minimum age 12.

Who is it NOT for?

If you want to hunt, book the Group Dive instead. If you’re not comfortable putting your face in the water yet, start with a calm beach day and come see us after.

Loved it and want the spear?

Snorkel Pro grads are perfectly set up for our Group Dive — same coast, same guides, same skills, plus the hunt.
